According to a news release from the Southwest Michigan Regional Chamber, the ceremony will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 16. The event will feature an open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony, welcoming athletes, families and community members to explore a brand-new, state-of-the-art training facility at 454 Shannon Way in St. Joseph.
Guests are encouraged to tour the 9,000-square-foot space, which includes three competition-size wrestling mats, a 900-square-foot weight and cardio training area, and features designed to support athletes of all ages and skill levels.
The facility is woman-owned and operated, with a focus on community, inclusivity and lifelong athletic development. At the forefront is founder Lisa Altman, whose vision and passion for empowering athletes have brought this dynamic space to life.
“The Great Lakes Training Center is dedicated to supporting individuals of all ages in their pursuit of a healthier lifestyle,” said Lisa Altman, owner of Great Lakes Wrestling and Training Center, in the release. “Our slogan, ‘Homegrown,’ reflects our core values of community, belonging, and honoring the roots and supporters who have helped us along the way. While designed as a multi-use facility, the center’s primary purpose is to serve as the official home of our wrestling club, Great Lakes Wrestling.”
Director Jacob Halsey brings experience and a shared commitment to athlete growth and development. Together, they lead a dedicated team focused on creating a welcoming, high-quality training environment for wrestlers and fitness enthusiasts alike.
