Mattawan Schools receive $150K grant to improve STEM equipment, programming

Mattawan Consolidated Schools announced Wednesday that they have been awarded a $150,000 grant in support of STEM programming.

Charles River Laboratories Inc. awarded the grant to the Mattawan Public Education Foundation with the intent to fund STEM equipment and programming across all four school buildings, according to Project Manager of Charles River Laboratories Bonnie Stuut.

School leaders, students, and other community members held an assembly at Mattawan High School on Wednesday in celebration of the grant reveal.

“We’re really excited about this opportunity and [are] looking forward to see how this will expand on the science programming here at the Mattawan Consolidated Schools,” Stuut said.

Stuut added that Charles River Laboratories is the largest employer in Van Buren County, and is only a half-mile from the school’s campus.

“Many of our employees have children who go to this school district, and we’re happy to be a part of this community to be able to support education for this school,” Stuut said.
