Open a book and an adventure begins.
Jake Fredericks has always enjoyed a good story—his lifelong passion for literature and the mindful adventures it unlocks started as a child when he began reading a copy of The Hobbit between the shelves of a local bookstore. A few months after purchasing and finishing it, he begged his parents to help buy him more books as he had already broken his piggybank to fill his own bookshelf. Years later, his devotion to reading turned into a passion for writing as Jake earned a degree in English from Albion College. Jake experienced his very own adventure after graduation when he found himself writing for a publishing company half the world away in Bali, Indonesia.
Try as he might, he just couldn’t stay away from his beautiful home state for long and returned to Michigan. Jake now continues to live out his passion for composition as a part of Southwest Michigan First’s Creative Team where he helps to tell the success stories of the region on multiple platforms.
When he isn’t reading or writing, Jake spends his free time perfecting recipes from faraway places. Traditional dishes like beef rendang and soto soup are being compiled into a cookbook full of his favorites. Someday, he hopes to faithfully recreate the spicy cuisine he used to enjoy in Bali.
“I know not all that may be coming, but be it what it will, I’ll go to it laughing.”
– Herman Melville
