Peter U. Bergmann, FACHE joined Ascension Borgess, a member of Ascension, the nation’s largest Catholic and not-for-profit health system, in February 2019. He is the 23rd lay (not a Catholic Sister) president and CEO of Ascension Borgess in its 130-year history. He was born and raised in Buffalo, New YOrk. He and his wife, Megan have two sons, Otto and Hugo, and one daughter, Annelies.
Peter graduated magna cum laude from Alfred University in Alfred, NY with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Health Planning and Management; and a Master’s in Health Administration from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He is a Fellow in the American College of Health Care Executives and has received a graduate certificate in Formation for Catholic Healthcare Ministry Leadership from Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, Missouri.
Peter served on the boards of Explore & More Children’s Museum, Williamsville Central School District Board of Education, Catholic Health System Acute Care, Catholic Health System Home Care, Cornell University Sloan Alumni Association, Sisters Hospital Foundation, Western New York Healthcare Association, and Cheektowaga Chamber of Commerce.
Peter has received national recognition for his leadership initiatives to successfully merge two hospitals and two medical staffs. He is a collaborator and consensus-builder that creates constructive, essential relationships with physicians and staff. He is a progressive communicator and change agent with a focus on quality care and patient safety.
