Joe Agostinelli, CEcD
Builder of families, houses and companies.
Whether enjoying a leisurely cruise on a local lake or fighting the wind and waves on Lake Michigan during the annual Chicago to Mackinac sailboat race, Joe Agostinelli is the guy you want at the helm of your boat. Raised in Traverse City, Michigan, Joe has spent many years on the water, mastering the art of sailboat racing. From the high seas to the conference room, it’s Joe’s instincts that allow him to steer the course confidently during times of low visibility and uncertainty to ultimately lead his team across the finish line.
A member of the Jobs Team at Southwest Michigan First, Joe partners with existing companies in the region to focus on their job creation efforts while also working to attract new companies to the region. Joe’s years of experience both in economic development at the state level, private sector and through supporting State of Michigan legislators allow him to thoughtfully navigate through project challenges and determine winning solutions. His efforts were recognized in 2017 by Development Counsellors International, naming Joe a 40 Under 40 Rising Star in economic development in North America.
When off the sailboat, you will find Joe on skis (water or snow), playing golf or relaxing at the lake with family and friends. A graduate of the University of Michigan, Joe loves to tie up his laces and hit the pavement. His ability to run 20 miles at a time comes from his former NCAA Division I Cross Country and Track days. Representing his family’s third generation of builders, Joe also keeps busy by remodeling family homes and building furniture for his wife Susan, son Nicholas and daughter Grace.
