Workforce Strategies, Inc., Kalamazoo, Michigan
"All of our divisions worked hard to make sure Sara would have a great experience by working in each and every group at WSI to learn as much as she could. Every new division, every new project and every new task or assignment that was presented was received with great enthusiasm and a true passion and desire to learn. Because of Sara’s positivity and quick learning style, she was able to take on multiple tasks and be a part of many of the division teams for special projects. She became an invaluable member of many of the teams. The Monroe-Brown Internship Program definitely connected us with a great young, developing talent in Kalamazoo. We have been fortunate to have been part of the program and to have selected, and now found, a new member of the WSI team."
- Karen Baldwin, Director of Client Relations, regarding Sara Wilson, 2008 Monroe-Brown Intern

Wolverine Pipeline Company, Portage, Michigan
"Wolverine Pipe Line Company counts it a privilege to partner with the Monroe-Brown Foundation and Southwest Michigan First in support of our community and our area students. We participated in the program for the first time this year, offering two summer internships, and we became excited pretty early on as highly-qualified candidates applied. The two students we hired this year each contributed significantly to our business as they successfully applied the “three E's;” their growing Education, their maturing Experience, and their unlimited Enthusiasm! We put them to work--real work-- and they became effective, productive members of our team. We view the experience as a total success and will participate again. It's a win-win-win for the business, the student, and the community. Thank you Monroe-Brown for the opportunity and for your generosity."
- Kathy Dean, Business Services Coordinator

ADMETRx, Kalamazoo, Michigan
"My project was to generate solubility data of certain reference drug compounds in the hopes of developing a solubility assay that could be marketable to ADMETRx's clients. This solubility assay would help the clients to quickly identify possible formulations for the compound to efficiently deliver the dosage necessary for the first-in-animal assay. Also, it would provide the clients ways in order to increase the solubility and bioavailability of a very insoluble compound. This experience has really increased my understanding of the pharmaceutical process and the chemistry involved in designing and dosing a compound for testing and for market."

Jasper Clinical Research & Development Inc., Kalamazoo, Michigan
"My internship at the Jasper Clinic as a research nurse intern was truly a beneficial experience for me. The nurses at Jasper did an excellent job at providing opportunities which exposed me to the whole research process, from recruitment and informed consent to discharge and follow up visits. I also learned a lot about the phases it takes to achieve FDA approval for pharmaceutical agents. Now I have a better understanding of how adverse events are identified and measure, something which is directly correlated to nursing care as nurses are often the first line in identifying adverse reactions."
- Elizabeth Brand, 2008 Monroe-Brown Intern
“I am a cellular molecular major, so I usually do not get a lot of time to work with people. During my internship, I worked on a team interacting with patients. I learned I like working with people and do not want to be stuck behind a microscope the rest of my life.”
- Emily Laughlin, 2009 Monroe-Brown Intern

Landscape Forms, Kalamazoo, Michigan
"Our internship at Landscape Forms provided us with hands on experience in layout, work instructions, cycle times, inventory flow, change over and preventative maintenance experiences on the shop floor. We were also given basic Solid Work training and a simple gauge fixture to design and detail and given a real work environment critique."
- Brian Snyder and Steven Burkhardt, 2008 Monroe-Brown Interns
“The people were the most inspiring experience of my internship…they were welcoming, friendly, helpful…a totally family feel. The quality of the people is the reason for the success of Landscape Forms.”
- Brian Patrick, 2009 Monroe-Brown Intern

Wolverine Pipeline Company, Portage, Michigan
"My summer engineering internship with Wolverine Pipeline Company was a very good learning experience for me. I learned about the pipeline business and related day-to-day technical issues. During my internship, I worked on a Power Efficiency & Cost Optimization project. That was a great experience of project management. My project study shows how to operate the pipeline to save power cost of about 17% of the normal power bill."
- Rajendra Chavda, 2008 Monroe-Brown Intern
“I was consistently challenged to think outside the box. In working on a variety of diverse engineering projects, I gained and refined my critical thinking and problem solving skills. I am now more confident in the business environment.”
- David Lawrence, 2009 Monroe-Brown Intern
