Dr. John M. Dunn
President, Western Michigan University
Dr. John M. Dunn became the eighth president of Western Michigan University on July 1, 2007. Formerly the interim chancellor of Southern Illinois University Carbondale, Dr. Dunn has also held teaching, research and administrative appointments at the University of Utah, Oregon State University and the University of Connecticut.
Dr. Dunn is internationally recognized for his efforts to enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities, specifically their long-term health. He has published many scholarly papers, developed innovative graduate programs, secured external grants and contracts and established a clinic to serve children and youth with special needs. Dr. Dunn is a fellow in the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education and has been invited to speak throughout the United States and several international countries. In recognition of his efforts, Dunn has received numerous awards for his scholarship, teaching and leadership and has held offices in several professional organizations.
Dr. Dunn received his bachelors (1967) and masters (1969) from Northern Illinois University. He received a doctorate from Brigham Young University in 1972.
Dr. Dunn and his wife, Linda, have three children, Matthew, Michael and Kerry.
